About Us

Welcome to Kensington Stud

Breeding Exceptional Riding Ponies for the Show Ring

At Kensington Stud, we are passionate about breeding beautiful, correct, and competitive show horses that excel in both type and temperament. Established in 2011, our stud was born from a long-standing love of horses and a desire to contribute meaningfully to the Australian show scene. Although we had bred horses prior, this marked our step into the world of purpose-bred show ponies and galloways.

Our goal was to breed Riding Ponies with the elegance, refinement, and presence needed for success in the show ring — all while maintaining the versatility and rideability. We were drawn to the idea of producing saddle horses in the 14hh to 15hh range — a height that blends the grace and beauty of ponies with the scope of larger horses.

A Carefully Considered Breeding Program

In the early days, we explored several breeds including Australian Stock Horses and Riding Ponies. It was a beautiful Riding Pony mare advertised that ultimately set our direction — and once we made the decision, we never looked back. Since then, our program has evolved through thoughtful selection, trial and error, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

We’ve taken the time to discover which bloodlines align with our values, our preferred type, and the needs of modern show competitors. Through this process, we’ve developed a breeding program that consistently produces ponies with beautiful movement, soft temperaments, and exceptional ring presence.

Our Foundation

At the heart of Kensington Stud is our foundation mare, Lanieres, by the superb UK sire Fairley Rembrandt. Lanieres brings a depth of pedigree and performance that we’ve built upon throughout our stud. Her son, Kensington Royal Red and Blue, now stands as our stud sire and carries a double cross of Rembrandt — both through his direct sire line and via his dam. He consistently stamps his foals with correctness, movement, and good looks.

Alongside Lanieres and her descendants, we have incorporated other carefully selected sires into our program. Royalwood Boy Soprano also plays a significant role in our breeding program bringing further elegance, scope, and showring performance.

We have a deep appreciation for the Thoroughbred cross Riding Pony. The combination of refinement, athleticism, and versatility this cross offers continues to produce balanced, correct, and competitive  horses that excel under saddle.

Producing the Next Generation

Over the past decade, we’ve made it our goal to improve our type and consistency — we’re proud to be producing quality show animals year after year. Lanieres remains central to our program, with two daughters and a son actively contributing to our future generations. She is out of Cartier, a Crane Trophy winner herself.

Kensington Royal Red and Blue has made an outstanding start to his stud career, already siring foals that are consistently true to type. He reliably passes on the quality, conformation, and breed character we strive to produce — a true mark of a prepotent stallion.

To complement and enhance our own lines, we also use carefully chosen outside stallions, allowing us to introduce new qualities while strengthening the traits we value most.

Looking to the Future

We currently have a number of youngsters preparing to make their debut in the show ring, and we look forward to watching them compete in the years ahead. As we continue to refine and develop our program, our commitment remains the same: to breed horses that are not only beautiful, but that have the type, temperament, and talent to succeed.

Thank you for visiting Kensington Stud. Whether you're here to learn more about our breeding program, explore our youngstock, or follow our journey in the show world, we’re delighted to share it with you.
